The Meth Addict In The Garage

So here is the situation: I’ve had my daughter’s car in the garage since early October doing the body work for the rear quarter-panels around the wheels. There is more work to do, but I found a good stopping point and applied primer to the exposed areas, and then took it out of the garage and put my brother’s Durango in at the beginning of December so that I could help get it back on the road for him. It had been disabled with a bent driver’s side inner tie rod and blown driver’s side tire, all from when my daughter hit it when she was practicing parking back in September, so I felt a bit obligated to pay for and possibly do the repairs.

The front tires were both shot anyway so I bought him new ones, and also replaced the inner tie rod for him and got it to where it just needed a rudimentary alignment done so that it wouldn’t chew up the new tires so quickly. He claimed that he knew how to do this and was waiting to get some Adderall so that he would have the energy to get it done, though I had my doubts that he would actually accomplish it since he rarely accomplishes anything while on Adderall. He worked on it for a couple hours one day in mid-December and all he really got done was to empty a bunch of junk from inside of it on to the garage floor by the rear door before claiming that he wasn’t feeling well and had to lay down. Not long after that we had a cold snap for about a week that saw temperatures in the single digits and below zero for a few nights, so I let that slide since the coal stove in the garage is not adequate for heating when the outside temps are below 30 degrees.

In the interim his son Kevin had asked if I would be willing to let Occ use our van to help them move some things down to Saxton due to some weird arrangement they have going on where his mother Brenda and her boyfriend, and his girlfriend Jess and their kids are moving into a place down there so that Kevin can clean up their place up here so that CYS will leave them alone. I said yes and filled the tank up with gas since the gauge doesn’t work and I didn’t want to have him try using the tablet to track gas usage as he would have gotten frustrated with it quickly. He had used it all weekend over Christmas and I filled the tank up again, and he then began using it on and off without asking through the week, until I took the keys. On Friday Brenda asked if he could use it again and she would put gas in it, so I agreed. He brought it back yesterday with the spare tire on, and the original tire being torn to fucking pieces, he said they had a flat down in Saxton.

Since that spare tire has been underneath the van for over 10 years, possibly much longer, I do not trust it and asked that he stop driving it since I cannot afford to buy new tires for a couple weeks, and I also don’t want to risk him doing more damage to the van since that’s how it usually happens- the longer he has a vehicle the more damage he does to it. I told him that he will need to get to work on his Durango and get it out of the garage and back on the road, reminding him again that I wanted it out to get Desi’s car back in after the new year.

And here we are, New Year’s Day. He’s been in the garage since earlier today, at least as early as 1PM though possibly earlier. The important work that he needs to do, the simple front-end alignment, can be done in less than an hour. As far as I can tell, he hasn’t even began that. The few times I checked in, around 3PM, he was fucking around with wiring under the hood and looking like he was working toward stripping things down to where the vehicle won’t be drive-able. And that’s par for the fucking course with him, sadly. He’ll tie that garage up for years if I let him.

It’s almost 10PM. In the past 7 hours, I did not hear him go in and out of the basement at all. As far as I can tell, he hasn’t left the garage at all, hasn’t came up to get anything to eat or drink or go to the bathroom. This is a pretty good sign that he’s tweaking. He’s still down there for sure, as I caught a glimpse of him walking by a window when I was looking out of the bathroom window up here at the house.

I shudder to imagine what he’s been doing down there. It’s either going to look like a complete disaster and he’ll have my tools all over the place mixed in with his and/or will have messed around with the garage wiring, or it’s going to amazingly look like he has done nothing at all in 7 hours. And as odd as that sounds I have seen it before when he was tweaking his ass off, just going in circles and getting absolutely nothing accomplished in extraordinary amounts of time. I don’t even want to go down and check on him since I don’t want to deal with his tweak-speak nonsense as I’m afraid I’ll go the fuck off on him.
