Something that has crossed my mind recently regarding my failures at job interviews in the past several years is how my appearance may have played a role in my rejections.
This is quite hard to prove, of course, and can be easily written off as overthinking, or grasping at straws to find an external entity to blame to cover up the fact that I just didn’t stack up compared to the other candidates, or how I did not properly prepare for those job interviews. But this doesn’t mean that it isn’t within the realm of possibility. It also doesn’t mean that the interviewers made a conscious decision to reject me specifically due to my appearance- specifically, my male pattern baldness, along with my very unsymmetrical front hair line.
These are the kinds of things that behavioral science has been discovering, how people tend to reject men with male pattern baldness due to the physical attractiveness stereotype they have learned from society throughout their lifetimes.
And that’s all I really have to say since there really isn’t anything I can do about it. I can sit here and point out how the interviewers are fucking idiots, but it doesn’t really matter.
